Matt A Bio

Born in Vallejo, California, and raised in a Filipino American household, Matt A is a visionary artist whose journey in the world of glass art began with a passion for creativity and an interest in counter culture. His artistic path took shape during his time at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), where he discovered a remarkable opportunity to explore his overlapping interests.

At the young age of 18, Matt embarked on an apprenticeship at the local glass gallery "Clown Glass," despite having no prior experience in the craft. Driven by his strong work ethic and unyielding determination, he quickly excelled in the studio and found himself immersed in the mesmerizing world of glass art.

In 2009, Matt's talent and dedication led him to join the legendary glass studio, "Swiss Perc," located in Seattle, Washington. Here, he had the privilege of learning from esteemed artists like Ease, Voorhees, Bryan Dosher, Scott Deppe, Jake C, Matt Eskuche, and John Kobuki. Exposure to lathe work, advanced fume techniques, and sculpting techniques further shaped Matt's unique artistic approach.

In 2015, Matt's commitment to honing his craft earned him a prestigious work-study scholarship at the Penland Art and Craft School in North Carolina. Under the guidance of Micah Evans, he delved into a two-month intensive class that encouraged him to develop the distinctive style he is known for today.

Matt's artistic vision centers around creating functional glass art pieces that can be enjoyed both indoors and in nature. He became renowned for incorporating functional tops into his pieces, defying traditional paradigms and redefining the relationship between art and functionality.

Currently residing in Minnesota, Matt works out of his private studio in Saint Paul. When asked about his art, he passionately states that "glass should keep you aligned with your better self, and accentuate your lifestyle to explore everything that is life and what you want."

Matt A's journey in the world of glass art continues to inspire and captivate audiences, as he leaves an indelible mark on the industry with his innovative creations and profound artistic philosophy.
