Brunswick Maine Blueberry
Brunswick Maine Blueberry
Vaccinium agustifolium 'Brunswick'
An exceptionally hardy, low-growing blueberry, Brunswick is loaded with medium-sized, sky-blue berries that have a powerful, old-fashioned blueberry flavor. Great for drying or using in muffins and pancakes! The dense foliage turns vivid shades of orange and carmine in fall, and the spreading growth will create a dense, productive groundcover patch.
Originally from Nova Scotia, this northern lowbush variety grows vigorously using rhizomes to create an irregular mat, even in notoriously cold climates. Shearing the top 2/3 of growth every 3rd year can stimulate lots of productive new growth and blooming. Reliably self-fertile, but will produce more with a different variety as a pollinizer. Prefers acidic soils with a ph between 4-5, lots of organic matter on top and gravel below, and full to part sun. 1000+ chill hours.
